Other help for Louisiana families

WIC is one of many programs for Louisiana families. Whether or not WIC is right for you, these can help. Most are free, and several make you income-eligible for WIC too.
Food help
- SNAP (food stamps). Monthly money to buy food. If you get SNAP, you also income-qualify for WIC. Apply at dcfs.la.gov/SNAP or call 1-888-524-3578.
- Food pantries (TEFAP). Free emergency food from local pantries and soup kitchens. Call 225-922-1313, or the USDA Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3-HUNGRY.
- School and summer meals. Free or low-cost breakfast, lunch, and summer meals for kids through your school district.
- CSFP. Free monthly USDA food for seniors age 60 and older. Call 225-342-8254.
Health and money
- Medicaid, LaCHIP, and LaMOMS. Health coverage for kids, pregnant women, and more. If you get Medicaid, you also income-qualify for WIC. Apply at ldh.la.gov/medicaid or call 1-888-342-6207.
- Shots for Tots. Free childhood immunizations (ages 0 to 18) at parish health units. Call 1-800-251-2229.
- Child Care Assistance (CCAP). Help paying for quality child care for low-income families. Call 1-877-453-2721.
Support for parents
- Head Start and Early Head Start. Free early learning and meals for young children, plus support for pregnant women and families.
- Maternal Mental Health Hotline. Free, confidential support before, during, and after pregnancy, by phone or text, 24/7, in English and Spanish.
- Louisiana 211. Dial 211 to reach a person who can connect you to local help with food, housing, bills, and more.
