Extra money for fresh produce (FMNP)

Updated June 30, 2026

The Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) gives many Louisiana WIC families extra money, on top of your regular WIC benefits, to spend on locally grown fruits, vegetables, and fresh herbs. It is one of the most missed benefits, so it is worth asking about.

How it works

  • It is extra spending money for produce, separate from your WIC card.
  • You spend it at authorized farmers markets and roadside stands, not the grocery store.
  • It is seasonal, so amounts and dates change through the year.
  • Ask your WIC clinic whether FMNP benefits are available to your family right now, and how you receive them.

Where to use it

Markets and stands take part across the state, and they change by season. The official Louisiana WIC site keeps the current, parish-by-parish list:

A few examples in our pilot parishes (always call or check before you go, since days and seasons change):

  • Baton Rouge: Red Stick Farmers Market locations, several of which partner with Greaux the Good, a program that can stretch your produce dollars further.
  • New Orleans / Gretna: neighborhood markets like the Market at Armstrong Park and the Gretna Farmers Market.

Why it’s worth it

Fresh produce is one of the healthiest parts of WIC, and FMNP gives you more of it for free. Using it every season means more fruits and vegetables for your family and nothing left on the table.

Based on Louisiana WIC guidance. FMNP availability and markets change by season. Confirm current benefits and locations with your clinic or the official site.
